Lucid publishes new glass and glazing position statement

Lucid has uploaded a new glass and glazing position statement to OEM1Stop that defines the responsibilities repair facilities must take.
“The condition of the windshield and front canopy glass is critical for proper SRS system performance,” the statement says. “Any windshield or front canopy glass removed during a repair must be replaced with new OEM glass.”
It lists an eight-step technical standard that requires repairers to use current procedures found in the model’s Lucid Service Manual for all glass repair and replacements.
Repairers should also use only Lucid-specified parts and consumables for the applicable procedure and VIN/build configuration.
“Confirm compatibility between the installed glass type and the camera, rain/light sensor, and HUD when required by the procedure,” the statement says. “Verify that the glass variant is compatible before transferring or installing a sensor.”
Lucid bonding instructions are listed as:
-
- “Surface preparation and cleaning sequence;
- “Primer application and expiration controls’
- “Urethane bead dimensions and installation sequence;
- “Specified hardening/cure timing before vehicle release;
- “Specific material callouts where applicable, including BetaPrime 5504G and BetaSeal; and
- “U-428 Plus as the only approved primer and adhesive on Lucid vehicles.”
Another “required technical standard” is the completion of all required glass-triggered calibration and configuration steps before returning to service. This includes applicable camera calibrations, HUD calibration triggers, and windshield calibrations where called out.
“Lucid-trained technicians must complete the calibrations and must use the necessary Lucid tooling and calibration equipment that the vehicle’s service manual provides,” the statement says.
Lastly, repairers are asked to perform water leak and wind noise tests before delivery and upload the required documentation to the vehicle’s repair tracker entry in the Lucid TechInfo Portal.
For the reuse of bonded glass, Lucid approves the reuse and reinstallation of all fixed glass, except windshields and front canopy glass.
Repair of chipped or cracked windshield glass and glass canopy is allowed, but limited to the following:
-
- “Damage area must be smaller than 1.25” (32 mm);
- “Impact point must not exceed ¼” (6 mm) diameter;
- “Inside layer of glass must not be affected;
- “No repairs within 3” (75 mm) of the outer edge of the glass;
- “No repairs made within 3” (75 mm) of any ADAS sensor (camera); and
- “No repair in the driver’s forward field of view. “
Repair facilities personnel must also retain sufficient documentation to verify procedure compliance including:
-
- “VIN and installed part numbers;
- “Procedure reference(s) used;
- “Adhesive and primer control evidence where applicable;
- “Completed calibration/configuration results;
- “Photos and supporting records required for warranty processing; and
- “Documentation of properly completed ADAS calibrations.”
The statement says glass manufacturing defects are subject to Lucid warranty terms, and glass damaged during repair is the repair facility’s responsibility. The latter could not be a Lucid warranty claim, it adds.
“Warranty repairs must follow Lucid procedures and policy terms,” the statement says. “Claims must include required supporting documentation, including defect photos where applicable. Failure to follow Lucid glass replacement procedures, compatibility requirements, bonding controls, and required post-repair operations may result in denial of warranty coverage. In such cases, responsibility and liability for the repair remain with the facility that performed the work.”
