Ford says 2024 BlueCruise data shows increase in use on daily commutes and longer trips

Ford has released BlueCruise 2024 use trends, noting that the hands-free driver assistance system “shines” on the highway in stop-and-go traffic for commutes and on long trips.
In 2024, more than 70% of BlueCruise trips taken in the U.S. were under 20 minutes, such as a daily commute. However, Ford says customers also used BlueCruise nearly 50% of the time when driving longer than one hour.
Labor Day weekend is one of the most popular times BlueCruise is used.
Last year, the Friday heading into Labor Day weekend saw the highest number of BlueCruise trips taken out of the entire calendar year, nearly 44,000, up about 32% from 2023.
In comparison, the Saturday ahead of the holiday travel season, Dec. 21, was the day when customers logged the most distance (610,000 miles) and spent the most time (8,600 hours) using BlueCruise.
“The data tells us that people are travelling further distances to one destination during the holiday season and perhaps staying put for longer versus taking multiple trips on a single day to get where they need to go,” Ford wrote.
Other highlights Ford shared include:
-
- F-150 drivers logged the most miles driven and time spent using the feature in 2024 — 58 million miles and 826,000 hours, up 42% from 2023.
- There was a 59% year-over-year increase in miles and hours driven with BlueCruise activated by F-150 Lightning drivers, logging 20 million miles. The number of trips taken also increased by 54%.
- A total of 140 million miles were logged, and 2 million hours were spent using BlueCruise last year by Ford and Lincoln owners, a 33% increase over 2o23.
- Over 1 million Ford and Lincoln vehicles on the road today are equipped with BlueCruise
A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) engineering analysis of BlueCruise remains open.
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened the investigation in January after receiving notice in 2024 of two fatal collisions involving BlueCruise-equipped Ford Mustang Mach-E vehicles. The investigation was expanded from just Mach-E vehicles to all crashes and non-crash reports related to BlueCruise, as well as other Ford partial driving automation systems that offer lane and speed maintenance.
