Lucid releases mandatory digital structural measuring position statement

A new position statement from Lucid requires pre- and post-structural repair three-dimensional (3D) measurement reports of the repair area from an approved digital measuring system for all structural repairs.

This applies to the body structure components in the key structural, ADAS, and crash safety mounting list. 

It also applies to any structural damage, including deformation, cracks, or separation that affects the alignment or integrity of the vehicle body or safety systems, according to the statement. 

Repairers must complete a series of steps before performing any structural repairs: 

• • Take measurements before (pre-measurement) and after (post-measurement) every repair to validate. Measure before the repair to verify whether the original damaged structure was modified by an impact that caused more than 3 mm positional distortion, which requires the part to be replaced. After the repair, verify that the repaired structure is within the original dimensional requirements, as described in Lucid Motors Structural Repair Procedures.
  • Complete the required measurements before ADAS or safety system alignment and calibration.
  • Upload the 3D measurement reports to the correct vehicle file in the Lucid Repair Tracker.

“Digital measuring systems find damage during repair planning and help align structural components before the application of final adhesives and fasteners,” according to the statement.

Lucid says that accurate measurements keep the vehicle structure dimensionally correct. It adds that this is essential for proper ADAS and safety system operation.

The statement includes images, with the replacement parts highlighted in red that require measurement of the mounting locations using the points indicated in the approved digital-measurement systems.

Lucid also uploaded a position statement on non-replaceable casting components. It states that the design of the Lucid Air and Gravity Body in White consists of three different material configurations: 

• • Stampings 
  • Extrusions 
  • High Pressure Die Castings (HPDC)

“The unique design and integration of the three materials ensure safety and performance,” the statement says. “HPDC components provide structural integrity and support for the vehicle’s underbody. Non-replaceable casting components are critical to the overall structural integrity of our products. This approach also ensures that our customers will be provided with high-quality service and support.” 

Some casting components cannot be repaired after a collision. 

“Potential localized repairs of non-replaceable components will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the Lucid Body Repair Team to ensure that our products maintain their designed structural integrity and crash robustness,” according to the statement.

“Any unauthorized repairs performed will alter vehicle crash integrity, which may lead to serious consequences,” the statement adds.
