New Texas insurance commissioner holding public events on property insurance

The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) is hosting a series of events around the state to talk about property insurance.

TDI Commissioner Amanda Crawford is holding the “Speak Up, Texas!” events to discuss home and auto insurance, insurance shopping tips, and how TDI can help Texans.

“I’m excited to meet with Texans and hear their solutions to strengthen and improve the insurance market,” said Crawford in a press release for an April 10 Nacogdoches event.

Another event is scheduled for April 17 in San Antonio from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at UT San Antonio’s Downtown Campus in the Durango Building’s Riverwalk Room B, 501 W. Cesar E. Chavez Blvd.

Texans are also invited to provide ideas about home and auto insurance on the “Speak Up, Texas!” website, found here

Crawford took over as insurance commissioner in February after being appointed by Gov. Greg Abbot

Former commissioner Cassie Brown retired from the position Feb. 2.

In 2024, TDI, while under Brown’s command, conducted a data call from 10 auto insurers on appraisal use and outcomes. The data was used by the Auto Body Association of Texas (ABAT) when lobbying for a right-to-appraisal clause bill, which was passed.

Crawford previously served as the state’s chief information officer. She also served as deputy attorney general and general counsel for the state’s attorney general.
