BMW expands restricted parts to include 3 Series and other models

BMW recently announced to its Certified Collision Repair Centers (CCRC) that it has expanded restricted parts to include additional models.
A document sent to shops earlier this month states that this includes 3 Series, 4 Series, X3, X4, and all M and BMWi variants. Parts specifically restricted include the frame rails, strut towers, rear body panel and uniside.
“Due to the complexity of structural repairs and their requirements for highly specialized tools, training, and repair procedures, BMW of North America restricts the provision of certain structural carbon fiber, aluminum, and steel parts to collision centers that successfully complete specific training requirements and possess the required tooling for the repair,” the document states.
Collision centers can request the provision of restricted parts via the “DEKRA IQC Live” platform, the document states. It also refers shops to BMW Bulletin #C-00-0226- 0015, “Restricted Structural Body Parts Ordering Process Update,” for more information.
The most up-to-date list of restricted parts can be found on DEKRA IQC Live’s login page under “FAQ.” Login credentials aren’t needed to see the list.
Restricted structural aluminum and steel parts have specific training and tooling requirements for their provisions, the document states. This includes completing BMW-Certified Structural Level training. It adds that requirements are subject to change and take precedence. Training completions are verified by CCRC’s current audit report or verification of the BODY technician’s BMW training transcripts and proof of current employment.
Carbon structural parts require a separate training path and tooling, which can be found in BMW Bulletin #C-00-0401-0005.
The document also provides a detailed list of required tools for aluminum and steel parts.
