Automotive News launches tracker of auto suppliers layoffs and closures of auto suppliers

Automotive News has launched a tracker that updates layoffs and bankruptcies in the supply chain, as it reports that 60,000 jobs across North America and Europe were cut in 2025.

It notes that the automotive supply industry has been hit with financial fallout from the EV production pullback and tariff costs.

For its fourth-quarter Auto Industry Confidence Index, the publication asked Tier 1 and Tier 3 supplier professionals how optimistic they were about the overall health of the automotive industry in the coming months.

The largest percentage (40%) said they were somewhat pessimistic. Yet, the second-largest percentage (24%) said they were somewhat optimistic, followed by those who were neutral (23%). Eleven percent said they were very pessimistic.

Automotive News also points to a RapidRatings analysis that found private suppliers had a 29% higher rate of financial distress than public suppliers. It also found that 20% of suppliers were in financial distress before tariffs were applied and that tariffs could lead to a 23% increase in the number of distressed suppliers.

The publication’s tracker lists the name of each company that has announced job cuts. It adds the date, the number of job cuts, the country, and a description of the action. This could include closure, internal restructuring, bankruptcy, offshoring, or insolvency.

Automotive News says it will monitor the cuts and update the tracker as more are announced.
