I-CAR to launch ‘Mixed Reality Repair Planning’ training using virtual reality

I-CAR says it will soon launch a new way for estimators and repair planners to learn who are pursuing ProLevel 2 recognition.
Mixed Reality Repair Planning will provide essential repair planning process skills and support high-quality repair outcomes, according to an I-CAR press release. It will be a requirement for Gold Class and Platinum recognition renewals beginning July 2027.
Slated for availability beginning with early 2027 enrollment, the training will take place in an interactive environment where key repair planning skills can be practiced that could be impactful to repair quality, shop efficiency, cycle time, and customer satisfaction, according to I-CAR.
Learners may engage using virtual reality (VR) goggles for the full experience, or access the series on a tablet or computer in accordance with I-CAR’s mission to deliver accessible, relevant education, the release states. It also notes that the training series is part of I-CAR’s multi-year investment in advanced learning technology.
“As vehicles and repair procedures grow increasingly complex, effective repair planning has never been more important,” said Kyle Thompson, I-CAR CEO and president, in the release. “The Mixed Reality Repair Planning series demonstrates I-CAR’s commitment to evolving our curriculum to meet the needs of today’s repair planning professionals.”
I-CAR says the series is guided by the Industry Knowledge and Skills Protocol and informed by pilot testing, as well as industry feedback. It aims to ensure that repair planning is a foundational part of the repair process to maintain estimating accuracy, comprehensive damage analysis, and alignment with OEM repair procedures, the release states.
“Combining modern technology with effective training, the series is intended to help estimators/repair planners to build confidence, enhance estimating accuracy, and complete quality repairs, in alignment with I‑CAR’s vision ‘for the ultimate benefit of the consumer,'” the release states.
