CAPA elects new board members and officers

CAPA announced Tuesday the election of new members and officers to its board of directors.

This includes Michael Brooks, executive director of the Center for Auto Safety, and Jonathan Hart, Farmers Insurance vice president of physical damage and regional claims, joining the board.

Jim Gadberry, Nationwide Mutual vice president of personal lines claims, was re-elected to serve another term on the board and was elected vice chair.

Gerry Poirier was confirmed as chair after serving in the role on an interim basis. Before his current role at Vector Squared, he worked as the national ADP manager for Farmers Insurance from 2009 to 2023 and as the Southeast regional manager for 21st Century Insurance from 2003 to 2010, according to his LinkedIn. He also worked as a regional manager at Hanover Insurance from 1982 to 2003.

“Welcoming Michael and Jonathan to the board, and recognizing Jim’s re-election to the board and his election as vice chair, reflects the strength and depth of experience CAPA continues to attract,” Poirier says in an emailed release. “CAPA’s ability to serve as a trusted, independent authority depends on having the right voices shaping our direction — and this board delivers that. Together, we remain committed to upholding the comprehensive standards that consumers, repairers, and insurers rely on.”

Earlier this year, Poirier addressed a question asked during a Collision Industry Conference (CIC) meeting open mic session regarding CAPA ending its parts decertification list

He said a notification had been sent out to repairers about the change.

“There is still a way to get information on a part to see if it is currently certified,” Poirier said, while avoiding mentioning any list option.

CAPA did say in its previous notifications that repairers can use its “Part Search” feature to access information on the certification status of parts and individual part lots. A previous notice also stated that CAPA would cease its weekly and monthly emailed reports due to the availability of its “dynamic online resource.”

Repairers can get almost all of the same information previously sent in the emailed reports on the Part Search feature, except for the decertification list.

The feature originally seems to have been built to provide shops with an option to create a report of parts updated as “certified” or “decertified” from a specific date entered by the user, essentially creating a list.

However, RDN attempted to create a decertified report in November and again in December, going back to July, and the search didn’t identify any parts.

Another attempt to create the report in January was made, but the “decertified” option has been removed from the feature.

Other members serving on CAPA’s board of directors include:
