Polestar rolls out Google Maps live lane guidance, plans 4 new models over next 3 years

Polestar 4 vehicles will soon have Google Maps live lane guidance on the driver display using AI-powered, real-time analysis of lane markings and road signs from the car’s forward-facing camera.

Polestar says the system understands which lane the vehicle is in and guides it through complex highways, interchanges, and dense traffic with clear visual and audio cues.

A November press release states that Polestar would be the first automotive OEM to integrate Google Maps’ new feature into its driver displays.

At the time, Andrew Foster, Google Maps’ product management director, said the automaker became a close partner in 2020 when Polestar 2 launched as the first car with Google built in.

“Now, Polestar 4 will be the first to integrate our groundbreaking live lane guidance, which will help people drive with even more confidence and set a new benchmark for navigation across the auto industry,” he said.

Sid Odedra, Polestar’s head of user interface/user experience, said that over the past five years, Polestar’s collaboration with Google had delivered many new features for vehicle owners.

“Live lane guidance continues the path of Polestar’s driver-centric UX strategy, reducing driver stress and improving safety by making missed exits and last-minute lane changes much less of a worry,” he said.

In February, Polestar announced plans to bring four new cars to market in the next three years.

By 2028, Polestar plans to launch:

    • Polestar 5 — The four-door Grand Tourer (GT) presented in 2025, with deliveries expected to begin this summer.
    • Polestar 4 — A new variant of the current best-seller, “based on the same great technology, targeting a wider customer base by offering more versatility.” To be launched later this year, with deliveries expected to begin in Q4.
    • Polestar 2 — The next generation of the sedan that built Polestar’s brand, a completely new successor slated for early 2027.
    • Polestar 7 — A compact, premium SUV slated for 2028.

With a “disciplined approach,” Polestar said it expects low-double-digit volume growth this year, along with continued retail network expansion of 30%. Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller added that 2025 was the company’s “best sales year ever.”
